Big Transition Ahead? No Better Time to Get StackMap
Navigating major transitions like new management systems or technologies can feel overwhelming, but Bennington College Library’s experience shows the difference the right tools and support can make. Oceana Wilson, Dean of the Library, shared their journey migrating to OCLC’s WorldShare Management Services while using StackMap and highlighted how these changes improved the library users' experience.
In January 2024, the library began migrating to WMS and implementing StackMap simultaneously. Oceana reflected on their initial concerns: “Being a small library, we were a little worried about starting two new projects simultaneously, but the StackMap setup was very easy and well supported.” The team’s confidence grew as they moved through the process with StackMap’s help.
StackMap’s implementation stood out for its simplicity and support. “StackMap made the transition incredibly easy,” Oceana said. “We even launched it on our legacy system before migrating to WMS. Our StackMap project manager made everything work seamlessly and answered all our questions.” This proactive approach ensured that StackMap was ready to enhance their services from day one.
For Bennington College Library, integrating StackMap with WMS has provided numerous benefits. Improved resource visibility via the Map it buttons and streamlined wayfinding now allow staff to focus on supporting students and faculty more effectively. The library’s enhanced capabilities have also made it easier to adapt to future challenges and opportunities, such as expanding access, optimizing space, and enhancing patron experiences.
Reflecting on their journey, Oceana offered advice for other libraries considering StackMap: “It’s a very easy integration process with excellent training and support. The StackMap team’s enthusiasm and expertise truly set them apart.”
Bennington College Library’s story is a testament to the power of collaboration and the impact of tools designed to simplify complex transitions. By implementing StackMap alongside WMS, the library has built a strong foundation for success, with StackMap playing a key role in enhancing resource visibility and accessibility to best serve their academic community.
