Team Spotlight: Devika Narayan, Product & Marketing Lead

Devika Narayan’s journey is a perfect illustration of how any connection can shape your future. Devika’s connection with StackMap all began on an airplane headed from her hometown of Plymouth, Minnesota to Berkeley, California, where she found herself in an interesting conversation with her seatmate, Lex, a Stanford alum and StackMap’s CEO (unbeknownst to her at the time). Their discussion not only helped to encourage Devika’s interest in Berkeley and attending college in Northern California, but also laid the groundwork for her future at StackMap. Devika found herself interested in pursuing intern work and, she reached out to Lex, who was more than willing to help and encouraged her to become an intern at StackMap, which ultimately led her to a fulfilling internship experience at the company in the summer of 2020.

Transitioning from an internship to a full-time role as a Product and Marketing Lead in 2023, Devika has thrived in her position. Part of her role at StackMap is to keep active on all social media, ensure our mapping solutions are reaching the right audiences, and manage projects for new clients.

“I began my college journey at Berkeley as a biochemistry major, yet soon realized that my real passion lay in cognitive science—a field that allowed me to study human interaction, communication, and the social dynamics that I found so fascinating. Working at StackMap has really solidified how much I enjoy interacting and helping others because, in the library industry, you really have to understand what people want and what they need, especially with mapping. We try to do the best we can to make the user experience really personalized.

I love the people I get to meet with my job. Librarians, library staff, and people in the library industry are so invested in the happiness and satisfaction of library users, providing information and authentic education for people, which you really don’t see in a lot of areas anymore.

What I enjoy most about working at StackMap is how close our team is, how wonderful everyone is, and how we all work so well together. Since working at StackMap, I've been able to learn so many different things and work on many different projects over the course of my 5-year career, which is not something that I would’ve had the privilege to do at almost any other business.”
